Maybe Im in left field here (talking sports NOT politics). Trying to figure out what # out of 3001 my 1983 H/O is, and was directed by one of the awesome members here to the H/O of america site (also on FB). Yet you have to become a member with an annual $35 charge to get the answer ???!!! I don't need to know that badly thanks! A list is at their disposal, its not like i'm needing them to run a bunch or history or reports on my H/O, just wanting out of curiosity to know what # our of the 3001 produced it is. What is this world coming to, honestly, where car enthusiasts of the same kind, cant even help out someone with a simple answer without charging them. Like I said, maybe im in left field in the way I feel or am thinking here, or maybe some may agree with me on this.....What's your thoughts!?

What it usually comes down to with limited run commemorative cars like that is that somebody paid/bought the right to the data list in question.

The charges are often to recoup part of what they paid for the info. I've seen it with indy pace car replicas as well so it's not out of the ordinary to hear someone else is doing it too.

Even GM charges these days for certain info packets about your car, whether they're really collectible or not.

End of the day, for some guys it helps prove authenticity and in theory add some value.

Realistically, my thoughts are meh, unless your car was first or last knowing the number doesn't help much. But build date doesn't equal spot in the order, gm usually picked cars randomly off the line, sent them to be converted where they sat in the lot of the 3rd party who randomly pulled them in with no real care about build date, and did them up.

A car built in january could be 'converted/built' into what they are sold as at the 3rd party site 100 units after a car built in April of the same year.

Gm was noted for doing such that with almost all their specialty cars 81 Indy, 82 GN, the 83 H/O...and yeah, not do or die for me to know, was just curious and was taken back that its $35 to join and find the answer....they can keep their answer lol

Judy Badgely gave out that info for free years ago. That's how I got mine. Actually, I think Angelo Valenti asked Judy for me and gave me the info... That was 17 years ago...

Yea I'm in the same boat, My first H/O I got my number from the guy who has a yard full of 84 Hurst/Olds (forgot the name of yard). I brought a front air dam from him. When I got my second H/O I contacted the club and they told me the same, I had to pay to get into the club and get that info. I wish I could remember the number for the yard, he sent me a list with a few of the cars. It had the build date, what number it was, and where they were sold. Lost it in between the move to Japan and back.

You have number 1

until someone proves different!!
