charging system problem

I made an error.....the white wire energizes the alternator, not the red

at what connection?...you probably measuring the battery

i only have a brown wire and a red wire in the prong on top of the alternator.i have no voltage on the brown wire.

i think i might of found the problem.i took the dash board apart again and the brown wire i out of the connector in the back side of the gauges.but it's completely missing the little bow in the connector that makes contact to the charge lite.

that is why I was asking about the lite and if it was illuminated when starting. The system is basically simple and not much can go wrong with it

if i jump the brown wire with a 12 volt source should i see 12 volts at the alternator connection

yes and it should charge the battery at that point when you start the car
