Epoxy primer isnt old school. If I didn't know it's qualities I sure wouldn't have done it to my project for winter protection. I've thousands of $$$ and hundreds of hour's invested in it so far. Do what you want but anything else will only require a LOT more work later and may not even protect as well.

Doug, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that I have to get out of the old way of thinking. I still have to get my head wrapped around the idea that today's primers are so much better than what I'm used to. I'm actually going with everyone's suggestions and doing the epoxy primer.

Yeah the old red oxide we used in the 70s and 80s was useless other than a filler primer. Now with epoxy,before you ever top coat it you have to sand it and put atleast one coat of epoxy before top coat,that's if you go beyond the 8 hour window of the 1st priming. I've had to learn about all the new products and procedures since I got out of the business in 89. Good luck and enjoy
