I hate to be the dissenting opinion, and I love me some ugly cars....

But 73-77 A bodies just don't do it for me. Not sure why but I have a tough time getting excited for them. Maybe it's because nobody makes them aggressive looking? 72 and previous A bodies I like, and 78+ A/G sure, but there is something about 73-77's that don't grab me.

Some of the Grand Am's I like, but finding a GOOD looking 73-77 is tough.

I realize the '73-'77 A-bodies were the proverbial red-headed stepchild of the GM line up. Granted they're heavy and large, but I think the body style tends to grow on you.
The Grand Am's were cool and the GTO's as well. Also the 442's were pretty nice as well.
When was the last time you saw a '73-'77 GTO? I think I saw one in my lifetime.
My good friend is the original owner of a '77 Olds Cutlass Salon....all black with Torque Thrust II wheels, warmed over 403 backed by BRF 200-4R and a 3.42 gear.
This car virtually pins you into the seat.

Technically there was only one A-body GTO from those years, the '73 based off the LeMans/Grand Am. '74 was the last year and for whatever reason was based on the Ventura/Nova platform. *shrug* GM's gonna GM.

I think the issue is the cars were designed early production for non landau tops, white letter tires, and round headlights. Late production they put laid back grills, white wall wheels, square headlights, small quarter windows, and landau tops.

I know comparing performance models to grandma editions is like apples to oranges but the entire body lines changed for the worse. I never see nice 73's, I only see nice 76/77's around and by that age they just got bloated and odd. Not ugly, just blah.

I like the 73 GTO's the most, id say generally early production ones are good. The GTO looks real mean, I would own one.

The regals toward late production got boring. Can't hardly tell it seperate from a B body.

But late monte's are just weird. I really like 78-80 G's but they just dont look right in late colonande body.

You're absolutely right, Chris.
I pretty much generalized, not knowing the exact year(s) of the A-body GTO production.

Outside of the Federal front the Chevelles were not that bad looking. Not the best, but not the worst. Atleast they were not an AMC Matador of the mid '70's.

Thanks for posting the various models of '73-'77 A-bodies.
I forgot about the Buick GS...also a pretty cool car.
The GTO is a sleek looking car. That particular one is pretty. I dig the louvered quarter windows.

I always liked the swept back roof design on these cars.
