well ive been looking around local and am having a hard time finding olds 350s i hear it cost alot more to put a chevy 350 in my 85 cutlass but why is it more and about how much a buddy of mines has the transmition for a chevy 350 so im good on that part.

With a chevy 350 you have to change motor mounts along with a host of other things, any olds engine (assuming you have a 307) is a direct bolt in as they all use the same motor mounts, this includes olds 350, 403 and 455 engines. In fact the transmissions end up in the same spot as well.

It is more trouble swapping an Olds for a Chevy than Olds for Olds. The Olds blocks are basically the same as far as bolting up, even the accessories such as A/C, power steering, alt. all are in the same spot. THe Chevy has the starter and Alt. on opposite sides and the battery would have to be swapped along with the starter wiring and fuel lines to the pump. Then you have to swap transmissions, more trouble.

No offence to the original poster, but I cry BS when someone says that they cant find an olds motor.

They are everywhere. On ebay, craigslist, junkyards.

If your looking for a running motor that you can just drop in, yeah, those will be harder to find. If you want to find a core to rebuild, they are out there and easy enough to find. 350's 403's, 455 bigblocks.

You just have to look. Best bet is to find a old car that is junk with one in it, buy the whole car, yank the motor, junk the body.

It's only cost effective if you can swap your current bolt-ons. If you have no motor, I'd guess they would be the same price for a mild build.
