Clutch pedal problems

The 2nd-3rd stick is just due to it being worn out and needing to be rebuilt. I had to carry a big screwdriver around and keep the boot unscrewed for a while until I sent it off. No shift? Pull over, lift up the boot, unjam the shifter and start again! 😀

Dunno if hurst still does it, but its worth looking into. Cost me about $50 but that was '96 or so...

I know it's a little late... but if the clutch fork rod location (where it contacts the fork), the pivot in the bellhousing, and the CL of the throwout bearing aren't in line with each other, you'll have issues with clutch fork movement. You'll want the pushrod to be as close to horizontal as possible. A T-10, Muncie, and Saginaw all bolt right up to a factory G-Body bellhousing. Far as the shifter issues, still sounds like it's out of adjustment, or you're using the wrong shifter. Is it a shifter designed for that trans? Different shifters have different arm lengths, and are designed to be used with specific brackets, if they're not where they're supposed to be, all the adjustment in the world won't help.

*edit*
I just saw you have the F-Body bellhousing... '82-'83? If so then it just sounds like it was an issue with the z-bar, which it also looks like you may have figured out.

GP403 that's what had me buggin. I dissassembled both shifters and each part was exactly the same. No wear, nothing out of place. One was a high mileage unit from a Firebird, one a new unit for the "A" bodies. Each part was identicle, yet one shifter had issues and the other didn't. I'm still scratching my head over this.

It may have been something internal on the shifter. The plates in the one I originally got with my 4-speed had chunks missing, so it would have issues shifting.

The one ear broke like 8 miles from where i was working. Had to drive the rest of the way with no clutch then 15 miles to get back home. No problems now .

Mine did the same thing back in 86' and I threw it all away and replaced it with an automatic :?

Yeah real stupid thing to do :blam:

Lets see some photos of that Grand Am inside & out
thanks
