How can that be.. Jimbob down at the local car show told me that it had to be a chevy to make any real power. haha Hellz yea! Now thats a butt kicking dyno sheet! I assume thats the 110 printout? 550 ft/tq at 2500 rocks! I had a lil bigger motor (509ci) with an I assume longer 4.3" stroke which as you know brings the power lower in the rpm range and it still only made about the same 550 tq at 2,500. Gawd it was a fun car to drive. It would punish a big set of drag radials from a roll.
With overdrive I assume you plan to enjoy it from the drivers seat instead of looking at it on your car trailer. I had a built 200-4R behind the 509 and I put almost 9,000 miles on it before a divorce caused me to leave her go. Good thing I still have my Grand National. Anyway the M&Hs or the Nitto drag radials made for a great street tire. Both held up well and was driveable if you get stuck in some rain. BFGs & M&Ts not so much. Regular radials were somewhat dangerous on the street as you could easily spin them so hard and they would take too much time to hook up or recover. A short wheelbase car would suck. The drag radials made it more fun and safe to drive. Plus I always had a fobia (sp?) of getting my butt handed to me on the street by a slower car that had better traction.
Even with the overdrive, lockup converter, and Q-jet, that provided decent hwy mileage and living by the intersection of two interstates I could still get three summers out of a pair if I didn't burn em up. I don't know what your rim size is but I have looked at 18s and M&T has a 275/40/18 with the same height & sectional width as my 275/60/15s so I know it would mount up with no issues.
I also considered a frame notch to mount a 295/65/15 which is 29" tall for the best street traction but never did it. It would take some 225/70/15s up front to look right and I like a lower profile tire than that partly for looks and partly for handling. Cheers.
Thanks for all of the great feedback everyone!
That dyno sheet is on the 110 Octane gas, which I just got back from grabbing another 30 gallons of sunoco 110!!
As far as the Bulldog heads...they are a protype for the new oldsmobile bulldog heads that are in the works. Dick Miller is working with some other people to get them in the market eventually. But I was lucky enough to have Dick Miller put one of the prototype set of heads on my motor!! Everything he used was his own "recipe" as I asked him to make me the most wicked 496 he has ever made. I have only had the car on the road once since the completion so I haven't even had much fun with the motor yet. But I do know that sitting in second gear doing about 35mph and jumping the gas to a little more than half way down was enough to put the rear end sideways! I haven't done that before with an automatic.
And regarding the electric overdrive...It is a 3 speed manual valve body, forward pattern transmission...the switch for overdrive just adds one gear for cruising on the highway.
