Has anyone done this? I'm putting together a new cluster and can't stand the OE wiper/delay switch. I plan on getting one of those Painless switches. Has anyone done a swap like that and want to help me out with wiring?

If you have a diagram of the old switch and the new switch, should be pretty straight forward to wire in the new switch.

If your original switch still work's, Do you want to sell it ?
I want to add delay to my El Camino,Its the only option I don't have. 8)
Been looking for the pieces The switch and delay harness from the switch to the motor. Thanks TC.

I used a later model steering column with the wiper switch mounted on the column. I got the steering column and motor from an 83 cutlass . I had to run 1 wire to make the delay work. I moved my switch for the same reason on my 78 cutlass

I had thought of changing the collum but thats too much work for me just to change how the wipers are controlled.

tc1959,
You can get these factory switches at OReillys.. the have reman ones that they can special order.

I have to dig up a wiring schematic to see what controls what on the delay switch... I'm just going to a hi/lo and washer switch.

If you have delay you will definitely miss it, my regal does not have delay and I hate it.

I love delay on the column. Be sure you get the right kind of switch. Up to '83 is negative switched and '84 beyond is positive switched. Not inter-changeable without some serious wiring changes.

Both the delay switches are just clumsy and barely work at all... I image with a new replacement they might work better, but I just dont get caught in the rain with the car much at all... I just need bare functionality. Plus I'm redoing my whole gauge cluster with modern looking gauges and the old switch will stick out like a sore thumb.

I just got back from O'Reilly's here they don't have the switch, Or they can't find it in their computer. :blam:
They have the switch that goes in a column, But they would have to order it.
The same for the delay motor. "We can order it"

Typical. You need to get someone who will put out the big green book that is about a foot wide. I wish I knew the manufacturer, but the parts guy told me GM sold the license to the company so they could make them. And I saw all the pics in his book.. they make a clone of the delay switch.

If you like, you can call up the guy I talked to at my local Oreillys... He will know exactly what youre talking about.

PM me if you want his name and store location.
