was the frame undercoated at one time? if so, is it possibly dried and cracked undercoating?

I have a 1985 Cutty with hydraulics. I reinforced my spring pockets up front with 1/4" inch plate for "LIGHT" hopping. In the spring pocket there was a seam that looked mighty similar to that. I cleaned up the seam and welded it closed to prevent the pocket from opening, then inserted 1/4" plate and welded that in. Yours, in my opinion, looks like the same seam with some sort of undercoating cracking off. Both my spring pockets had the same seam. Depending on your build needs...I would clean up the pocket and see if it is just undercoat coming off the seam...if that is all and your just going back to a stock spring weight...you should be good. If you are building a drag car, big motor car or heavy suspension build or lowrider with juice like us lowrider guys...I would weld it closed...easy and safe way to ensure the pockets stay closed. Hope that helps.

So I got a response from a guy in classic Gbody garage group on facebook and he said it's a seem not a crack. He sent a pic of a frame he's building.
