Greetings LukeZ & all; I'm always amazed by some of the cars the guys have put together, take that fine "G" that Mr. 565 BbChevy has. He is showing some nice parts, not without cost I might add. Anyway if your interested & can wait until late winter - spring, I'm seriously considering removing my Hooker ( ceramic coated) early (1980 vintage) headers, stainless 2.5 inch tubes & Flowmaster mufflers. The Hooker's seem like a good match for your goals as they are were considered shorties of the day. Now days they would be considered mid length. 1-1/2 inch primary's & 3 inch 3 bolt collectors. Plus leave room to mount cat in stock location. The "Y"pipe, I believe is gone. This system was bent up on a muffler shop bender back in 93 long before you could purchase mandrill bent "J's & U's. So as the tubes go over the axle, they kink on the short side of the radius. If you have the patients & are interested, we can talk over the next number of weeks. I'll attach a couple of pictures, more available as the car is on jack stand now. Bob Jr.
Ps: Sorry, I don't know how to attach pictures anymore. They changed something on the site????
I appreciate the offer, vanrah. Let me get back to you on this after some thinking.

1 1/2" primaries? On your motor? Ya I would say maybe you should think about going with a different larger header. But I'm sure you're plenty wise enough to know that.

I got a sound violation in my daily driver SUV for my music... no problems in my Grand National, which I kept Florida tags on because it has a bucket turbo and dumps at the axle. I also have an el camino. Sounds like you need a full exhaust with some electric cut outs. PM me where abouts in DE you are located.

Haha, you're so funny pontiacgp. A real card, I tell ya

Delaware. There's sound laws, and you're required to have a muffler, even if you're car isn't loud without it anyway.
If you are referring to the Pypes system that Wleblanc66 was referring to the kits are available without mufflers so you would have to supply a pair of your own choosing to use the system, they are not designed to be used without mufflers at all.

Greetings Guys; LukeZ said "I appreciate the offer, vanrah. Let me get back to you on this after some thinking." Me TOO. As the new stuff that 565 BbChevy mentioned is a serious contender for the bucks. But I don't believe it's Stainless Steel, the pipes I have will out live me & probably you too. And if you drive the car the aluminumized steel will look like rust in a year or two. Something to talk about next year. As it's a big job for my ol'e body?
Mr. Drogg1, Thank you for the question, "

YES, 1-1/2 inches all these years. And a 12.47 best through these old Hookers, 2-1/2 pipe (with kinks), Flowmaster 50 series mufflers. I got a say of the thirty passed (?) since I've started taking it to the strip (1999) only once have I crawled under & opened (2003-02?) the headers. A friend of mine has been running a engine dyno for over 10 years now. He likes to have the customer's exhaust system in his dyno room from exhaust port to tail pipe tip. If they can't supply it he rigs up something similar from his inventory. This is a general consensus, MOST 375 inch engines & smaller make more power with 1-1/2 primaries headers. Their is always an exception. Many 400 inch engines that have RPM capability above 6000 will do better with 1-5/8" primaries. So that puts the 383" guys right in the middle. I was up to his dyno last winter as he wanted to try my carb on a 383 as he didn't have a mule carb in the 750 -800 CFM range at the time. If memory serves it peaked out at 5700 RPM with the best results from the 1-1/2 headers. Now if it had been a 6500-7000 RPM engine the 1-5/8 would of produced better numbers. Hence me wanting bigger headers for along long time. Thanks for conversation guys, Bob Jr.
