I haven't taken apart a Malibu/El Camino dash so I can't help you there. But I'm sure someone will chime in for that.

Okay thanks I'll have to take mine apart or find one at a junkyard to take apart so I don't mess my stuff up even more lol

where is that located at?
as soon as you pull the gauge cluster off there is a printed circuit board with about a 20 wire harness going into the back of it that unclips from the dash and from there you can track it down and rip it out. if something was wrong with that then your gauges wouldent work right. everything but the spedo would be messed up

Hmm, then maybe he has a short somewhere?

I'm thinking it might be maybe a loose wire or something because almost every night if I hit the same bump on the freeway they will turn on but only 50% of the time then they will stay on the rest of the way and if I turn my lights on then off they come on but if I turn them off and leave it for over a half an hour they won't come back on. I will also note that my lights to my heater and stuff work perfectly

the lights on the heater working tells you its not the switch. anything weird happening with the lights? maybe its a bad ground. i put the wrong bulbs in my taillights and when i hut the brakes my parking lights would come on

I haven't really torn it apart and really looked at it real good yet. I have torn apart the dash and tried looking to see if I could see anything unusual or wires that looked bad or corroded. I think I'm gonna try to look at it from underneath the dash where all the wires are. But I did test the negative wire that goes to the switch and that's fine.

I haven't done any work to it at all only put on a bigger sway bar the gp bar jounce bars etc and I put in a new deck about 8 months ago I guess I can go back and re wire that. Another thing I noticed is that my alarm is wired into the dash lights running lights etc so when I unlock my car all the lights click on then go off but the same time the dash lights went out my running stopped turning on when I unlock my car but they recently started working when the dash lights started to come on like I explained before

Every Gbody i owned lost the dash lights and i have never been able to track it down ....
My bet is its the bulb , my interior dome light on my regal was the same way ... I finally just bought a new bulb and it works perfect .... GL
