Just took apart the 403......Starting over...........................
 
20 on the crank 20 on the rods
40 on the pistons

this thing was beat to poop
 
Should be fine if the clearances are good. How far are pistons in hole?
 
Thats where its at now everything is good but that crank was never that strong to start out with
 
I'll be milling the 4A heads maybe around 50 thousandth along with the intake to bump up the compression

Previous builder just did a clean up mill


 
True it is weaker, just keep the revs reasonable and it will live a long life. The later cranks are weaker but weigh less too. I've had my 76 wimpy crank to 5000 rpm with 0 issue. It took 5500 rpm with an unbalanced 307 crank in my 403 to spin rod bearings.
 
The 403 and 307 use the same crank?????

Any port work on the exhaust side? It is severely in need of work. The intake side just needs a bowl hog and blend to flow nicely.
