I looked for a 1978 Malibu for a couple years but really couldn’t find one close enough and in good enough shape for the asking price. A few years ago I found this 1979 Malibu on offer up. Definitely close enough to go look at. It is optioned quite well and after talking with the seller, I knew I would be buying it if we could get the price right. It had a destroyed transmission and a worn out engine but I knew those things would be changing anyway. I showed up with cash and a trailer, we got the price right and loaded it up. He knew I was a serious buyer but wanted to be assured the car would not be cut up into a drag car. It is now a nice driver/toy with a BluePrint 383/TH400, new steering and suspension, a bit of some interior work and several other things to make it mine. I’m thankful I have the car to begin with let alone the things I’ve done to it. Without the support of my wife and friends it wouldn’t have been possible. Our cars are never done and mine is no exception. Still a long way to go.

Vote for me and your wildest dreams will come true.

This is my 1978 Regal Sport Coupe. I bought it as my first car for $400 when I was 15 (54 now...sheesh). It was a deep maroon color that had already been painted and was cracked everywhere. It had the 3.8 turbo in it, a bench seat with column shift and not much else. I drove it in high school, took it off road when I could, and also hit a Jeep head-on when I was 17. Crushed the bumper and header panel, but luckily nothing else. Used a 2x4 for a front bumper for a few months until I found the new front clip for it. Also cut out the rusty floor pan and installed one from a 1981 with buckets and console. Right after high school I removed the tired turbo 6 and installed a 305. Went in the Marines and sent my dad money to have it painted. Drove it all over the US from station to station. After the service I installed the SBC 400 out of a 1972 Chevy truck. Had car seats in it at one point as the kids wanted to ride in "dad's cool car". Installed the Lightning Rods in 2005, a GN rear with Hotchkiss suspension in 2011, then the Sniper EFI in 2021. Also made the November 2019 issue of Car Craft for the "Burnout!" page. I'm keeping it forever and told my wife to bury me in it. Next up is a repaint. I'll have it 40 years in June. Amazing how time flies.

Hello everyone, this is my 87 Monte Carlo. It was purchased new by my father, and passed to me when he passed in 2020. It still is pretty much the way he kept it, and still has the original drivetrain with over 180k on it.. Its got the classic 16x8 Torque Thrust wheels, tweed dash, and old school Autometer gauges in the interior. I recently put Viking coilovers on all 4 corners, and finally got it sitting right. This weekend I took it to the Turkey Rod Run for the first time. It was an annual trip he made over the years, and it just felt right to finally bring it back, since the early 2000's. I plan to go with the 17 inch Year One wheels, with a sportier tire and add some bigger sway bars..
