Weird, my manual said not to use synthetic with the Truetrac.

Pretty sure the factory recommends synthetic on Thorsens....? 🤔 Why would it be different for aftermarket, especially since Eaton makes them for GM?

Yup! I googled "2000 Z28 differential fluid" and it pointed to a Bobistheoilguy post that referenced a GM part number, which happens to be synthetic. Now, on the other hand, the destructions that came with the Moser housing and axles said to use dino only- no idea why.
I can see where it might make more of a difference with conventional clutch material, but not so much metal on metal like an Auburn or TruTrac.

The Auburn is a picky b*tch with gear oil. It'll unload, lock up, do all sorts of weird sh*t. Even when you get it right it has a tendency to unload the right rear.

.....and, I do know the 14 bolt in my 02 2500 takes synthetic; that's a Thorsen, too.

Well looks like I'm half correct. Gotta read the whole paragraph. Basically the less slippery the lube, the more aggressive the diff will act.

I just got one myself and this is what it says in the manual

Had a tru trac put in my Monte's original rear end with new 28 spline axles shafts. Putting around 330 340 hp at the wheels i believe. Grabs the ground and goes good. put a little over 2000 miles on it last year with no issues. Nice seeing 2 black lines on the road

How do you like the Detroit Truetrac so far is it loud?

I love mine. I don't know what anyone else is talking about as far as noise. It's silent. Not sure if some of the posters are thinking of a locking diff. Tru-tracs are not one of those. They are meant more for road racing than drag racing.
