I decided to do a VIN decode and decode a few of my RPO codes. I was reading it and thought line 2 is a little wierd..... Did I enter the number wrong or something? I think "Manufactured by a company nobody cares about" is kinda a wierd VIN code.

1 - Manufactured in USA
6 - Manufactured by a company nobody cares about
3 - Oldsmobile Division
AR - Cutlass Supreme Carline Series
47 - Coupe - 2 Door Notchback Special (Body Type Restraint System)
A - 3.8L V6 2bbl engine
7 - Check Digit (See below for details)
B - 1981 model year
R - Assembled at Arlington, TX
476406 - Sequential Build Number

On the RPO side of things, theres a few codes that didnt work on Olds G mail. Anyone know what they are?
The whole first line
81
03A
3AR47
R
151664

Second line
47D
L

From seeing that it looks like my Cutty is pretty low optioned. It has AC stuff but isn't listed on the tag. Is that normal? It doesnt have codes for interior colors, trim or anything else. Kinda thought that was wierd. Any explinations?

81 = 1981
03A = I believe is the date code
3AR47
R
151664
The rest is your VIN number

There were only a few option codes listed on the cowl tag. If you want them all, you should either try and find the build sheets, or just order up a vehicle invoice from GM...http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/

Ok, that clears things up a little. Thanks.

Another question, I have jounce bars and the small diameter rad support to fender braces. Was this common on non F41 cars? I know that they may have been added by the previous owner as this was going to be a drag car but they look origional.

My '79 has the same supports as yours and it's also not F41. Just about every Cutlass I've seen in the yards around here have had them.
