or was it only certain cars?
is so how do you identify which one to get?
i know where theres a wrecked 92 z28 could this car have the quick ratio steering box?

As far as I know, all IROC's had the quick ratio box. But, there are differances in them too. Car's with 17" wheels have differant internal stops due to rim size than the 16" (non-IROC) cars.

There are IROC, Z/28, and regular Camaro boxes. The IROC box has a higher *road feel* to them than the Z/28. The Z/28 has less road feel but still more than regular Camaro's. Road feel is the differance between driving granny's Impala and your buddies sports car. I guess you could say it is a bit more "effort" but quicker.

Looking at the very front of the box, on the circular end, there is a code. It may not be able to read due to dirt and grime over the years. This code is easily removed while cleaning, too. The IROC box is coded "XH". The Z/28 code is "YA". I have no idea of what the other codes are.

I have an XH box on mine and it is one nice box! Bolts on just like the stock box. Some say you need to put the g-body pitman arm on the f-body box but in my experience I have no clearance issues. I got mine used with the f-body pitman still attached and didn't know the differance until afterwards, someone recommended to someone else to swap the pitman arms. Mine works okay, regardless.

I'd say the 92 would have a better box than a stock g-body so yes, I'd swap them out.

You also need the screw in fitting off the back of the power steering pump. I can't remember the exact reason for this but I do know it's important. It, too, swaps right out with your stock pump fitting.

if i remember correctly, cutlass salons (85-87)had an optional quick ratio steering box,but i'm unsure if it is standard on salons or optional.

I know the f-body box is 12-1 and I think the g-body boxes are 12.7-1 I'm not positive on the g-boxes though. That's not enough differance to even notice on most cars. It wouldn't be enough differance to look for an f-body box if you already had an F41 g-body box unless you plan to autocross or race.
