I used your exact wording "81 g body grills" and ended up with that picture above.
Using your revised wording of "1981 g body grills, this shows up in the bottom right corner...

:?

I don't need to Google it, I know what they look like, and they're the exact same as the '86 grilles.

IIRC, 1981 had TWO grill styles. I believe the Calais grills were different than the Cutlass Supreme Grills.

The Cutlass Calais had 6 rows/4 Columns of rectangles.
The Cutlass Supreme looked like the 86 grills.

This is from a 1981 Olds dealer brochure...

Brick442 is correct, I totally forgot that two styles were offered that year, one for the Supreme, one for the Calais.
The Calais grilles were carried over for the 1982 model year.

Still think GM wouldn't use the same grilles more than one year?

Does that make us both right and wrong? Thanks for posting the pictures they are cool, is there some were on the web that has all the different year factory sales catalogs posted? The wheels are cool to on the calais. Bernhard 😀

well, that saves me from digging through my library. I wished GM took better records on options. That tou-tone Calais with N78s - first time I saw that picture it had the wheels in my head turning

what's the production date or sequence on that VIN ... first I heard of 86 to 87 overlap. My Salon was late 86 production.
