So I have an 86/GP 305 200r4/OD 86,000 miles. Here's the dilima, Went to change the trans fluid, shop wanted me to
sign a waiver that they were'nt responsible if the trans started slipping :wtf: give me my car! Went to anther shop same
thing :wtf: :wtf: Guys this is an 86,000 mile car thats been well cared for all its life! So went to anther shop and the guy told
me that if the fluid is'nt dirty or burnt leave it aloan because Gbodys are nortorious for changing the trans fluid and the trans
starts slipping. So want I want to know is this :bs: or is there any truth to this :?: The only reason that I want to change the
trans fluid is because the fluid 27/yrs old and I changed the rearend fluid and added lucas additive to both engine /rear was
gona put it in the trans as well. Oh I'am getting better gas milege to. So what do you guys think :?:

My neighbor which is a mechanic told me something like that. I was told when I change my transmission fluid to drain the old in a clean container, because sometime when you put new transmission fluid in a old trans it will start to slip. He said once it start to slip just remove the new fluid and put the old fluid back in.

Yeah I was told by three additional people one with 84/cutlass, anther with 86/regal,anther an 89/caddy all had trans fluid
changed and started to slip. Now keep in mind all those cars are V-6.

the new transmission fluid is more slippery that the old stuff in the transmission. The guys are just protecting their butt from someone who has problems and tries to nail them for the last ones who touched it. One of my corporate clients is a chain of service centers and you would not believe what some guys try.

So should I change it or leave well enough alone.

Is their a differents between the V-8 trans and the V-6 trans?
Gbarrie.
Doesnt matter if v8 or v6 they are the same. I have had plenty of friends tgat had trans failure after fluid change. IMO leave it as it is.

if your transmission has no problems I'd leave it as is

Thanks for the insite guys, you've been very helpful and I appreciate it. Just never heard this befor thought that
they were trying to BS me.

if the fluid is clean and does not smell bad you would be ok to change it. my car has under 80,000 on it and i changed that as soon as i got it with and exchange machine engine running complete fluid change and have had no problems it was a little dirty but didnt smell burnt at all. i do have a modified plate in my trans though dont think that would make a difference but its possible. if it slips after new fluid there were worn componets befor hand new fluid will not cause the problem it will just bring it to light.
