so did reinstalling the earth wire fix it???

sry i didnt update. my alternator was tested and put out 32 amps...thats like nothing..I see that some alternators put out around 40 but the standard seems to be around 70 to 80 these days so im gonna pick up one of those when i get some spare cash. I dont run any electronics since there is no stereo at the moment or anything else so I think i can get by for awhile.

32a is way too low!!
stock for your car should be 80-90 amps.

what can i say...my car is poopin out on me 🙁 lol

Nah...I'm not surprised..the accessories are probably as old as the car and I kinda expected them to go eventually. Are all alternators pretty much the same? There is a massive range of prices on rockauto.com....40 to 200.

the stock alternator for your car was at most a 74 amp. I get my alternators from a local rebuilder and for a 100 amp it costs me less than a reman 74 amp from the local parts store

I use junkyard alternators on my G body. I have had the same one in it for 11 years and paid $10!! It was a fresh reman when I found it, and I grabbed a starter in the same condition for the same price. Prices have skyrocketed now to $15-20. I hate inflation!

i bought an alternator for the 305 motor my car came with assuming it didnt make a difference. Ive got a 350 in there and im asssuming thats why it didnt fit. The new alternator was just too big, it wouldnt line up with the bracket and bolt going into the side of the head.

I have to return it and im looking at 1977 el camino 350 alternators now. the highest amp rating I see is like 63 amps. Is this gonna be enough? I thought that seemed low...

like I suggested find out who's a good rebuilder of alternators in your area and get a 100 amp from them. I got mine for $80 up here in Ontario so you can probably get on for around $50....
