Well Dad got the plugs changed, egr changed, and got the AC working. The car idles great, AC blows cold, starts good. To be honest for the car being almost 40 years old how good it is surprises me.

Also got the wheel locks off. How the car has lasted almost 40 years without having the wheel locks pulled off (it had steel wheels too!) is beyond me. Those wheels wont be lasting long thankfully.

The glove box was stuck closed so I got it open finally and found the last 40 years or so of service records. Originally sold in Milwaukee, and found the original window sticker! Thats pretty cool! Found out the only options it has are AC, remote drivers mirror, wood grain, heated rear window, power unlock rear window, power steering (aparently an option), and cloth front seat with viynal rear. Kinda interesting that it was a buick with almost no options.

Car drives great! Gets 21mpg at 73mph with the air on. Only complaint is that it goes through oil. A lot. Like a quart every 100-150 miles. So 500mpg oil haha.

Good thing I bought the 4.1. I am going to get that engine built and get it installed before I can really drive this. I drug my grand national in a box turbo parts so I am going to get started on that.

I am stuck between not driving it a lot and putting as many miles on it as I want and just using used oil until it siezes or the 4.1 gets done. I have like 5 gallons of used oil behind my garage from the last year so It's tempting just to filter it quick to get the little pebbles and stuff that fell into the drain pan when I changed the oil and use that since this engine has so much blowby apparently.

Besides the oil consuption it's sure a nice wagon.

Did a little discovery/tweeking today.

Put the rear sway bar on I had laying around. Its been 7 years since I've driven a G body without a sway bar, totally different car! I can acutally corner now haha! Also found out the car has aluminum rear drums. Cool!

I bought new tires tomorrow. I assume everyone can know what wheel I am using on the car but I have

Option A

B

C

Or D

I have a wheel bad problem :)

Putting the 4.1 together. Gaskets and rings showed up. Gave everything a good cleaning, honed the block, checked bearing clearance, tapped block for turbo oil return, changed valve springs and seals on the heads. Its getting there!

Greetings Mr 81 Cutlass & all; I've been reading your post & can see you're havin' fun. But may I ask the question, " why didn't ya do a valve job or at least blue (measure) the valve faces & seats"? Since my education was auto engines I tend to be a little anal (OK maybe a Lot), but a good valve & ring seal can make bunch of Torque. Lose one or the other & it may not use much oil but won't have the desired cylinder pressure to keep that smile on your face. Keep on havin' Fun, Ole' Bob.

Why didn't I go through the heads? Mostly because the engine had 5000 miles on the rebuild until the crank broke according to the previous owner. They looked decent to me. They had brass valve guides so I know they were gone through so that agreed with his statement. Also, I plan on porting them down the road and didn't want to take the time when the wagon needs an engine.

So they weren't bad enough to warrant redoing and with the additional amount of work I plan to do this winter I couldn't justify it. And the block should be bored and the crank should be turned and the pistons should be replaced with forged. So it's spend $250 to just get it running or $2500 and admit it will take 6 months.

I used the 3 through 6 pistons out of this block and the 1 and 2 pistons out of the other block the crank came out of.

I was going to put the heads and pistons in today but its 94 out and I don't want to deal with that heat.
So I wait!
