Doc's '88 H/O Prototype

Well I think you're a little mistaken on the pushbutton shifter, keep in mind this was Docs personal daily driver and he made mods not done to any other vehicle he made. With that said the push button shifter was actually a prototype given to Doc to test out by Hurst at a later date after the kit was developed. He installed it into his car to 'debug. The end product would have looked nothing like this.
Cars a piece of automotive history, love it or hate it I don't care... all I ask is to keep the negative comments to yourself guy. This car is dear to his children and has centmental value to them and they couldn't afford it. Its sad to see people people ripping on it knowing that this is something that they remember their father for and growing up driving around Michigan daily in.

Not ripping on it, dude. Just wondering where it fits in the big picture. Of course I can respect its provenance and rarity. Like I said it seems like it was too late to the party to have ever been considered by the General, just wondering why he/they would even bother.... and duly noted on the push button shifter. That explanation makes more sense than something he would have been presenting to GM. I'm guessing there's a history of what the car actually was (if and) when it was pitched to brass and what all happened after?

Was a general comment to everyone, not you in particular.
'guy' should have been 'guys'
The internet has become much worse with negativity in the past year I've noticed ever since Facebook has taken over...
People had a field day with this car, not easy to sit back and watch, especially for the family.

Very cool find! What is your plans for this car? I would love to see your hole collection. Do you have a link to all them together, pictures or what not?
My plans are to preserve it and make a few cosmetic updates and that's about it.
I've toyed with the idea of getting a 640 ci DRCE into it but some of the H/OCA club members disagree.
If the Watson family ever wants the car I may let it go back to them.
It was sad seeing it go from impound lot to auction and then sit in the elements and wind up in a car flippers hands.

If you post up pics of any car you're going to get opinions and comments. Otherwise what is the point of showing it off.

The point of showing it off is to spread knowledge, share Oldsmobile history and have a technical/historical discussion around the car and answer questions.
Not looking for comments or opinions good or bad, really don't care if people like it or hate it or how they feel about ground kits etc. 9 times out of 10 opinions are distracting and deter from the discussion.

It's pretty cool to see that car again. Some where I have pictures of it with my dads 84 Hurst/Olds. I took them in 1989. I'm going to have to see if I can find them. Too many times of moving, not sure where they could be.

That would be awesome addition for my show display if you ever find them and scan copies.

Olds did make a Prototype of their GN, the Olds FE3X. Set up for serious handling, a 5 SPD manual and a 200 HP ram air swirl port 307. Pathetic now but good for 85. Doc tried, kind of like Harley Earl with multiple F-88's in the 50's. Problem was, the Corvette looked like a sh*t stain in comparison, so the F-88 was a no go. Cool he tried, remember this was designed in the 80's.

awsome piece of history! glad you were able to identify what it was and to save it. I too hate all the negative comments on it, but think of it this way: the ones making the negative comments on the body kit are too young to remember the 80's, which means infusion of younger people into our passion for these cars... kind of a good vs evil type thing.
