So the heater check valve on my 80 GP is obviously old and rusted , in which I have already picked up a new one already

My question being.. Does anyone know the name of the part that the check valve hose connects to off of the head right on the driver's side of the distributor?? I have a 301 4.9 V-8 in it. I am just curious as to what the name is and if there is a replacement part available for it should it got bad, as it looks like it may be pressed into the head...but I am not positive.

Any advice would really help out! I appreciate it!

Could you post a picture please? 🙂

I will give it a shot, it is pretty difficult for me to even get my hand in but I'll see what I can do with my little digital cam.

You mean one of these?

That's the one! Awesome thank you! I am going to get one ordered, just to have on hand. It kind of upset me, as living in Az I had just replaced EVERYTHING in the cooling system on my GP, and one day in the driveway, saw a dime size spot of coolant and after searching found the hose coming from the heater check valve to that part was leaking at that connection.. I really appreciate it!

Be careful! The straight one is for traditional Pontiac V-8's. The 301 uses a 90º bent model. NOT easy to find. The straight one will place your heater hose too close to the HEI cap. If you remove the old one, it probably won't go back in and seal. I had to epoxy mine back in after getting the heads done. If it's not leaking, leave it alone!

You know what and come to think of it, mine does have the 90 degree bend, and it is still somewhat close to the HEI cap.

And you can rest assured I hadn't planned on touching that thing, I am just going to replace the hose that runs from it to the

heater check valve, it's pretty old, and is seeping coolant down the back side of the motor and bellhousing. It is hardly

leaking at all but with me living in Phoenix, I dont want to take the chance of it messing up even if it isnt summer. But if it

comes down to it, I'll take your advice and epoxy it back in. LIke I said though by all apearances it is the old hose that is going bad.

RegalBegal you would think so, but the 301 has a 1 inch lower deck height than the traditional Pontiac V-8. That makes the intake and pushrod cover narrower as well. So the end of the head is super close to the HEI. Thats said, it's not a problem with the correct 90º fitting, but it's hard to find for some reason.
