Door strikers, bit the bullet!

Ya gotta do what gives you a little pleasure in life... and makes you happy...
I hope these little bits are what keep you enthused and inspired, and give you the gumption to continue on.
I hope you've been making progress on the car.
That is correct Jack! I just try to stay focused through the week, and the amount of miles I drive for work allow my noodle to wander off in "cutlass land" as I'm always researching, planning, or executing the next step of the build. Sites like this definitely help when I need reassurance if my ideas are self-questionable....nothing like a great group of gear heads to bounce ideas back and forth while gaining priceless knowledge along the way!!!

Hell, I've spent the last hour or so taping just one of my opera windows up so I can prepare it for some SEM love.....once done I will update my build thread.

To Jack, Jim, Jared, Steve, Donovan, and all the others on here.....thanks for being awesome for support and helping to keep this great passion we all have alive!

Agreed....I haven't seen many people on here from KY, and I can honestly say that the g body owners locally are nowhere as batshit crazy as I am about the little details!!! There are some nice rides, most of which are lowriders with ridiculous paint jobs that would be near impossible to match if wrecked....the big wheel crowd which I've seen moderate mods, the drag crowd with gutted cars to be as quick as possible, the stockers that are garage kept and pristine, and the total beater G's that look like they are gonna fall apart after a hard bump!!! I'm not biased towards any of them as I enjoy seeing and talking to everybody, but when my cutlass hits the street I want people to crap themselves!!!

A lot of people saw my car before it went in for the redo....a lot have doubted it will ever get done, but progress has never stopped over the past 5 years...definitely slowed down at times due to a couple unplanned career changes, excess hotrod $$$ being nonexistent, and raising 2 beautiful girls while keeping the wife happy!!!! At least she can't wait for it to be done either so we can hop in and cruise and those are her words.

Whew, went off on a tangent....what I was getting at is it will be all the small details, custom mods, etc that make it stand out from the crowd!!!! Most of the little things won't be noticed by many, but I'm sure some will and wonder why the heck I put this level of work into a cutlass....because it's my 1st car that I've had since '01 and ultimately it's the vision I have for a nice show car, pavement pounder, and cruiser that my family can enjoy for years to come! The door strikers will just add to the flair a bit.
Geesh I need to shut it lol, gotta get back to taping off my opera windows for the next custom touch....more on that hopefully later.

I totally understand. My car as it is right now basically falls into the higher end of the beater category but I'm working on it. I agree with you about the local cars. It's the same way around here. I live in Mt. Vernon. It's about 50 miles South of Lexington. I think that's one of the reasons I love this forum so much, there are a lot of really nice cars on here with lots of custom touches. I never see that in person here. Basically just the kinds of G Bodies you described.

I also know what you mean by having a good woman who actually supports your efforts in building a car. My fiance is really awesome. She'll get her hands dirty right along side me. She helped me put the TH350 in the Monte Carlo. A few of my dad's friends were standing around and asked if I needed any help. I told them I had all the help I need. Heather isn't the least bit afraid to crawl under the car and work. She has said more than once that she loves the Monte Carlo. She's a hardcore Chevy girl. She's got the Chevy bowtie tattooed on the back of her neck!

Keep adding those little touches and making the car what you want. You'll have something unique that you can be proud of.

Well hell small world it is, I know Mt Vernon....I work for a document shredding company in Shelbyville and one of our customers is in Mt Vernon. I was down there about a month ago...then went on to London to hit their (the customer) other location.

Yeah my wife always says "I ain't no cream puff" lol and will get greasy with the best of em!!!

Side note....if you are ever hunting for stuff around the Louisville area let me know, I will keep my eyes open for ya when time permits.

Small world indeed. Have you ever been to the Summer Nights Cruise in Somerset? I used to go a few years ago but haven't been recently.

NO but that's always been one I wanted to go to. If I ever put an overdrive trans back in my cutlass I would take it....I would trailer it as is b/c I wouldn't wanna drive that far with a th350 and 3.73's.

It was pretty cool back in the day. LOTS of nice cars. It would be a pretty long haul for you though. I don't blame you for not wanting to make the trip without overdrive.
