Doug Nash 4 + 3 swap?

Im pretty sure there's a guy here - that goes by the name "Guy" - that has a Doug Nash trans in his built big block Monte SS. Hopefully he chimes in....

I do indeed have a Doug Nash trans,but mine it is different than the 4+3 the OP is asking about.

A T-56 swap is better and would have a hope in hell of not blowing to pieces. A stock T-5 World Class is rated for 300 ft/lbs, the 403 is 330 ft/lbs in stock weezy form. I have been looking for affordable 5 speed swaps for my 70 Cutlass S. There none that can handle torque with any useable ratios. I think a T-56 used might be my best bet.

Yep. That's why I kept the M22 in the 442. I'd love to have OD, but can't swing the $3k+ to do it. There was hope with the Kiesler 5, and then they went under. I think the McLeod is even only rated to 500ft/lb.
 
They are right. Good luck keeping a t5 alive behind a 403, or anything with power for that matter. Cheap t56's exist, just keep hunting.
I have a 403 backed up by an lt1 t56, its a great combo (I scored my t56 for $400. Another friend got his for $650.)

Yes, it is only 500 ft/lbs and there have been issues. The Legend 5spd was the Kiesler trans I believe and it sounds great but again not even sure If they are actually available.

I will be checking that thread and sending you a PM. I need to see where the Camaro LT1 T56 trans shifter ends up. Your car has a lot of torque not doubt knocking on the 450 ft/lb rating with no doubt.

No problem, I'd be happy to help! As for where the shifter lines up, I assume you mean for the 70? In a g body it looks like this(now it has a shift boot on it):

I have found a rebuilt LS T-56 locally but $$$. It sounds like that is better one to get vs the LT1 T-56. They are more money from what I have seen. Is that a split bench in your Cutlass. I will have see if running one is possible with my non split bench seat in my 70S. Ideally a Pontiac GTO T-56 would be best, slightly deeper first and OD ratios. The deepest gear I can get for my 8.5" Type O is 3.90. If I can find a T-56 for around the $1000 mark, then I will accumulate the rest of the parts as time allows. Is there measurements online from the bellhousing to the shifter?
 
Another option is to use a Doug Nash/Richmond Gear 4+1 5 speed like mine.
Mine is holding up to 650 HP and over 600 lb.ft of torque,although the gears have been cryogenically treated for more strength.
But before that it held up to over 500 lb.ft of torque.
They arent an OD trans,fifth is 1.0 to 1.0,but with the low,3.28:1 first gear you can run a fairly tall rear gear and have the same effect as an OD trans and a lower gear.I'm running a 3.0:1 rear gear and with the low first gear it is equal to a Muncie 4 speed with a 4.10 rear gear.
