Hi,

I am in the process of installing a motor and transmission in my car.
I have 2 drive shafts that will work but one is all rusty and ugly and the other is nice.
The rusty one has the yolk on it, attached with the U-joint. I want to use the yolk and have a new U-joint but can't seem to get the stupid thing off. It is from an 87 Grand prix.
There looked like nylon pins that held the U-joint in place so I drilled them out and the thing still wont budge.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I also have posts asking questions about the transmission mounting brace and more.

Thanks in advance.

just take a propane torch and burn the nylon out..the nylon is sitting in a keyway all around the cap so keep heating it till there is no more of the nylon coming out of the holes. When a driveshaft is balanced it is done with the yolk installed so if you have a vibration after you install the driveshaft with the donor yolk you might want to reinstall the yolk 180*

Both excellent tips, thank you.
I can see on my other driveshaft where the groove is that had the nylon in it. I didn't know what the groove was for until now.
I hope the guy who kept the yolk has a vibration too. LOL.

One thing to add to what pontiacgp said. Be sure to use safety glasses and keep the end pointed away from your face if you melt them out. The melted nylon usually oozes out like a snake when it melts, but if pressure build up inside it will come out like a gun shot. I've seen it happen twice. I got hit in the arm once and it left a bruise. Definitely not something you want hitting you in the face.

That's crazy, thanks.

I got the yolk off. Basically had to keep heating it up and beat the sh*t out of it with a hammer and a chisel.
I think I bent the yolk a little. This U-joint was on there good.
Drive shaft is now in the car, on to the next project.
Anyone know which oil pressure sensor I need to hook up my electric choke?

This one. It's $2.88 at Rockauto, but the shipping will make it cheaper at a local parts store.

I'm not so sure Bonnewagon, I buy lots of stuff from Rock auto because even with the shipping it is cheaper.

Thanks.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number would you?

I found it.
