I use the roofing ice and water shield, the butyl rubber type, instead of the dynomat for sound deadening . A friend of mine in the car stereo business for the last 1/4 century tipped me off about that product.

I used a product made from shredded denim with a foil backing. I did above the headliner(between the braces), floor, etc. The only downside was that I had to pre-glue the surfaces, but it sticks like a son of a gun. Another member, who I haven't seen in awhile recommended it. It seems to work pretty well and it's cheaper than Dynamat and similar products. It's called Bonded Logic. I bought it from JC Whitney and if I'm not mistaken, can be purchased from Home Depot. https://gbodyforum.com/threads/working-on-the-wagon.33260/page-47

Similarly, I used rolled duct insulation with reflective foil stuck to the underside of my roof. There are no obnoxious odors, it sticks well and you can buy the stuff at your local Menards, Lowe's or Home Depot. Expensive products like Dynomat, Koolmat, Fatmat, etc are basically the same construction. I am all for spending money on quality where appropriate but why pay for a name when you don't see it anyway?.... For those that are interested check out the link below.

BTW, my New Year's resolution is to get my worthless A$$ out of bed and get back to my build thread. Lupus has been kicking my butt for over 2 months . . . but, hey, I am [still] breathing. That's a start . . . 🙂

I've had the rear end dropped for over 2 months to take it to town for the blast and coat and haven't touched it since.

Another way to look at it is, you can have Lupus and set and do nothing, or have Lupus and tinker with your car or project, even if its at a slower pace. Progress is progress, plus it can be motivating.

Good luck, and hang in there. I have been lusting for one of those new headliners...kinda wanting some feedback how they fit and all.

Not to highjack my own thread but Lupus is a flaring disorder gets better and worse though in my case never does go away. Though immuno-suppressant drugs can be helpful, because of Lyme disease and Cancer [both thankfully in remission], I am not a candidate as suppressing my immune system might bring either or both back and then we'd have a REAL party!

I can assure you, when it is bad, it is never a matter of "sitting and doing nothing" as if that is some kind of choice. When bad, even on days I feel good enough to make it out to the shop, turning a wrench especially on the suspension/brake mods I am doing [high torque required], is so incredibly painful in primarily the wrist and elbow you just cannot do it.

Now, when it gets better, though it is still challenging and still painful I can get out and do a few things and I do and I will. The last couple of months though just like another bout earlier in the year have just been impossible. I felt a little better today so we managed to go to the movie theater and see Passengers [great movie BTW] but then I almost did not make it back to the car. But as I have said elsewhere, I am almost 60 and could literally drop dead tomorrow and I've had an amazing life.

thanks for your concern though . . .

Back on topic . . . I have no doubt that there are other products to use and probably some that are pennies on the dollar compared to Dynomat kind of like that green paint on John Deere tractors but I used it religiously on my old Tacoma, worked well, and the 11 speaker sound system in it rivals the 14 speaker Bang and Olefson in the wife's Audi. So, I bought enough to do the floor and part of the trunk and, with the way it's packaged, I have enough left over to do above the headliner. Honestly, had the damn cloth not fallen on my head while I was sitting in the car earlier this summer making varoom noises, I wouldn't be considering taking down the headliner to do it. But since I now have to anyway, it sounds like a few strips would be worth while . . . thanks a bunch all!

Sorry you have to go through that. I worked with a guy that had lupus....not fun. For the first time I recently experienced sciatica so I can relate to immobilizing pain. My left leg still has numbness but it is getting better. It prompted me to trash our old worn out pillow top and buy a new $4000 memory foam mattress over the holidays. Talk about a scam....Just go to Art Van and try to listen to one of their salesmen without laughing.
