I wasn't aware that they made an LT1 in 1977.

It's all about casting #s. I believe a true DZ 302 ('69 only) would have 186 heads. The MO/MP 302 ('67-68) would have had 291 casting numbers. Date codes would also need to correspond. Both of those casting #s were used on other engines in other years so to call them true DZ heads means that everything needs to be correct. On a numbers matching restoration it can be almost impossible to prove or disprove that a part originally came on a car as long as the casting # and date codes are right. Over the years parts get swapped due to service, repair and warranty work.

GM didn't make an LT1 in 1977. They were produced from 1970 to 1972 for Corvettes and Camaros, and then GM revived that RPO code again in 1992, and the newer LT1 was produced until 1997.

Exactly! The casting dates must match the 69 model year (roughly September of 1968 through May of 1969) for the heads to be considered "correct" for a real DZ engine.

Correct casting number: 3927186 (referred to as "186" heads)
