Any of the Elderbrocks can but still need an adapter plate. Just don't rush into picking just any carb. On the right track with a 600 CFM, a 650 would be max. I wouldn't go below 500.
The 1406 is a 600 CFM, 1403 is a 500 CFM. Both are the same with the difference with the CFM & I would even say the size of jets. Keep in mind there are a varied opinion on the Edelbrocks out right performance compaired to a good Qjet or even a Holley. To be honest the best performance gains for your stock 305 will be a Qjet, then when you upgrade to a 350 would be a performance carb. But with budgets & not wanting to buy multiple parts like a carb to keep researching on the carb that will be a good fit for both motors. Most here will suggest the Qjet & it'll be the easier way to go with conversion from a computer controlled carb. Odds are that Summit Qjet would be a better choice.
