I'm wondering what vehicles come with an electric speedometer that I can adapt to use in the GP, I have the interface to use a gps signal. I have tried looking it up but there doesn't seem to be much info unless I want to use an 85 mph speedo.

Thanks... 🙂

I recalled this writeup I read a while back.

This is on a MC but I can see this possibly working the same for a GP. Keep us posted

thanks but that's a conversion of the stock speedometer which is not what I am looking for.... 🙂

Ditto, I want to know this. I would love to use the stock speedometer spot at least. I am a bit different as I want an electronic speedometer so my T56 can give the signal.

I tied retrofitting the G van or late suburban cluster into the G body GP cluster and it wasn't anywhere close. Totally different odometer location, mounting method, and diameter.

I ended up getting a summit electric speedometer and column mounting it. It does go to 120 and have a similar sweep path.

Your only options for factory readouts with speeds over 85 would be 87+ cars. All the FWD stuff is ~90 went to 180 degree sweep speedometers with a different font so if you try to retrofit something like that in there its going to look like trash.

I ran out of ideas and gave up with a stock appearing retrofit option.

An 88 fiero might work but it is a good amount smaller in diameter, and the odometer is in a totally different spot.

Trans am stuff is worthless since the gauge doesn't match the sweep pattern of the G body stuff

I modifed my cluster with a 5" Autometer tach in place of the stock tach. There is a kinda local to me guy selling a Speedhut electric speedo but he wants $200 for it, he's had it for sale for over a year so I guess he'll never figure out his price is kinda high

You may want to look at the following YT video:

Please note, the above video is for an electronic speedo using Arduino and VSS (not GPS). You should be able to get this going with VSS and then convert to GPS.

Best of luck. Let all of us know how you make out.

PS Video has 140 k/m speedo (roughly equivalent to 85 mph). It would be relatively easy to program that speedo as a mph speedo (rather than a km/h speedo) with a top speed of 140MPH. If I did that conversion I would create a decal to cover the "KM/H" with "MPH" on the 140KM/H speedo.

PPS You can design and print your own dash (including speedo and tach) overlay. There are also companies that sell such overlays.

90s Buicks or Monte Carlos may be a good choice. They generally have round faces and aren't terribly hard to interface with. If you were feeling real froggy, you could section out the Buick cluster and replace all the guages instead of just the speedo. That way all the fonts and gauge styles would match.

That was kind of the idea I had when I seen this video.
