So I bought a used 383 a few months ago. I got it installed and running, after a few miles I decided to see if it had forged pistons being that I wanted to swap to aluminum heads to go faster cuz who doesn’t want to go faster. So I borrowed a borescope and found some kind of melted metal it looks like on piston number 1. Now I’m unsure what to do ? Take engine out and take to machine or drive and don’t worry about it or try to get off and out of the combustion chamber?? What are your opinions and experiences? It runs good has plenty of power but I’m unsure where to go from here. Thanks

It's hard to say what we're looking at through pictures of an endoscope. It doesn't look like there is a hole, but you might want to check your spark plugs and see if any of your cylinders are running lean. How much do you know about the engine? What is the compression ratio, cam profile, curent heads and intake manifold?

Don’t know much about engine. No info on compression ration. Was told it had mild cam. Has 71 heads with 1.94 1.6 valves. Edelbrock 7501 intake. Spark plugs looked good. I’m leaning towards taking it to the machine and have them rebuild it.
