when I removed the computer and I just replaced the whole harness using one from a pre computerized car..it just plugs into the connector under the wiper motor and all the wires associated with the computer I cut off at the firewall and removed all that wiring from the engine side

You don't need to. The ECM harness is completely separate from the engine harness and can be completely removed without touching the engine or forward lamp harness. The ECM harness passes through the firewall in a grommet under the HVAC box. You need to remove the passenger side inner fender to unbolt the grommet. Once you disconnect the harness from the ECM under the dash, the harness pulls through the firewall in one piece. Note that this is separate from the HVAC harness, which also comes through the dash in the same general area.

if I remember correctly on my GP the wiring for the carb and air pump and some other wires for the computer were included in the harnesses so since I had another harness I thought it would be easier just to switch it out

Thanx guys 🙂 That rescued me from a lot of work
Thanx again my friends for superb info 🙂
