Engine harness help! Pulling my hair out!!

Hello Thxs for letting me join the Gbody community!! I have a 84 gmc caballero and I took the 3.8 v6 out and going with a sbc 400!! I was told the engine wire harness on the firewall bulkhead changes because of the v8!! I can’t find a new bulkhead engine harness for the v8 no we’re!! Can someone please help me because I’m stuck!! Thxs in advance

The engine wire harness does NOT need to be changed. So as long as yours is intact you can use it.

The only thing you might have to do is lengthen the alternator wires, Simply because the V6 is shorter than the V8

Thxs mane I’m gone have to try and put mine bk together because I was told I couldn’t use it because v8 I’ve been stuck for about 2 months trying to find harness and all that time I could have used mine ! Thxs again mane

+1 on the lack of need to replace the OE harness, except that, depending on how bad you "Modified" what originally came attached to the bulkhead connection, you might end up having to do some salvage yard surfing to find a Caballero corpse that you can score the engine bay half that you need. Scaring up a used harness will save you the hassle of trying to match and re-attach all the wires from the original piece.

I was able to reuse the 231 engine harness on the Chevy 305. However, I had to swap,out the 231 computer harness for a 305 computer harness.

Thank you very much for that reply back that helps me out a lot being I was at a stand still just have to repair the original one now thanks for info about the computer!!
