assuming that the t-stat you used was good, the car running even hotter with one means you have a flow problem. it could be an old water pump or the block/radiator need to be flushed.
also, what coolant mix are you running.

im running a brand new 89 caprice water pump thats the set up i got the serpentine setup off of radiator is a used pullapart one
did u at least have that used radiator flushed out. or even let the waterhose run through it for a lil while before putting it on. if not i would flush out that radiator to see if that will fix it. if u already did that or if it still does it after u flush it then go pick up a t stat and drop that in to see if it will stop the running hot issue. if it does then u know u need some restriction in the coolant path and can either keep that t stat or go to a performance shop and pick up a restrictor if ur set on not having a t stat. good luck

Two suggestions. 1-Just take the guts out of the t-stat, (the spring and flapper on the little shaft), whats left will be your restrictor. 2- Have you checked the fan to see if it turns in the correct direction? The fan should be sucking in, not blowing out. Just a couple of FYI's. ...................mickey-d

P.S. If the car has A/C, you will need two fans, not one. 😀
