what is the nomal running temp for a mild 383 stroker
and does having it mostly chrome make any differance in the heat, i have heard that chrome retains the heat more .

200 to 210 and I don't get worried till it hits 240...... chrome does keep in heat. The other problem with chrome parts is they are usually poor quality you have issues with the fitment when it comes to oil pans and the lack of baffles in the valve covers. Black paint will dissipate heat better than any other color.

As long as it runs below 220, you are ok. 190 to 210 is the ideal range for longer life and better efficiency.
