I agree. We're nearing the end and I'll be withholding final payments until I'm satisfied. This project has taught me a lot but I'll never build another house. And when it comes time to build the shop, I'll be taking the reigns and doing much of it myself.Dude, if you're paying someone, you should be their #1 priority, not their next job.
The place looks awesome, and I'm still trying to figure out how to be like you.
That's what they say. It's not technically "correct" for the build but it's a recognizable feature that I always though was kinda cool. The rest of it is pretty much 66/67 vintage M16A1, or at least as close as new parts could get me. The Hydramatic lower was a must have and it's pretty close to correct with the engraving but the forging has a little too much material at the take-down lug. Basically, it's not flimsy enough to be a clone. The upper is a Nodak without the shell deflector. Most other carry handle uppers have deflectors and A2 style rear sight. The pencil barrel isn't technically right because I specified 1:7 twist so it wouldn't be picky about what it shoots. Visually it's right though. I have to admit, it felt really weird taking sand paper and scotchbrite to brand new parts to try and make them look like old parts. I tend to treat my stuff pretty gently and none of them have "safe dings" or "normal handling marks" that guys mention in ads.Nice M16
Those dam flash suppressors would get hooked on anything and everything!!
At times you gotta build them with what you can get during the build. I built one afew years back to replicate my first issued M16, an A1 with the brass deflector (mine has a used Colt upper.) I had to deal with a 1:9 heavy barrel cause nobody had A1 barrels at a sane price at the time. Wish I could of found a lower that could of been engraved as a Colt & use a 442xxxx S/N (almost all has that S/N series, '69 production.) I would love to build a copy of my combat M4 but don't want to pay the tax stamp on a under 16" barrel. Now if I could afford to build an M60 like we had in the Guard in the '90's...That's what they say.
