ive got a '84 monte carlo that gets no traction. Ive got a set a american racing wheels that came on the car. i know the backspacing is 3.75 but am unsure or the width. my question is will i be able to fit a 275/60/15 without any problems? I've got 235's in the back right now and there seems to be ample room for wider tires. Im pretty sure 255's will fit but id like to go as wide as possible without have to notch the frame or put on wheel spacers

255 should give you plenty of traction.

what motor are you running? have a posi or open diff?

Go no bigger than 255/60's

275's will rub on bumps, hard launches, & corners.

its got a built 355 with a 8.5" 10 bolt with a powertrax lock-right in it. i think ill just stick with the 255's. I had a feeling 275 would be too big

275's will fit, but it's VERY close, and may require trimming of your wheelwell lips to clear them. Backspacing is very important here as well.

Also, keep in mind the slop in these cars, as the bodies to not sit perfectly over the frame.

I test fit some 275/60's on 15x8.5 wheels last summer, and one side looked like it would rub, the otherside looked like it had plenty of room.
I didn't drive it because I didn't have the correct lugs for the wheels, so I just set it down to eye it up.

255/60 is a safe bet.

I run 255/60 on my 442 on stock 15x7 rims, and on my Olds wagon with 15x8.5's.
