exhaust manifolds vs headers

To be honest I thought I was gona get responses like don't waste your time with manifolds maybe il stick to the manifolds it's just pass side is original and driver side is from a old pick up they look exactly alike but I noticed the older one has a skinny spot in middle and the newer one is thick there

If it was cammed with head work ie bowls opened up to match larger valves and a competition valve job then you would likely see a good gain from headers. But box stock only a very small gain power & economy.

The vortec head is a very good flowing head, what good is it to limit the exhaust flow with ugly manifolds? Headers are a must, I have a roller 350 with vortec heads And my exhaust guy almost slapped me when I showed up with shorties. He made me put my long tube back on. Plus you will have a noticeable power gain. More power means more fuel efficientcy.

im def gonna spend probably not this weekend but next weekend to hit the junkyard find some nice headers that i see with my own eyes fitting a g body i dont really trust craigslist when people say oh yea they fit for sure and have a couple beers and have some fun swaping them into the car.

yea mine is roller as well

i keep reading up on the subject and the words 'more efficient' keep comming up lol and it makes tons of sense, i read that the real advantage of headers is isolating the cylinders so when a valve is open exhaust aint being pushed into it

ive had my old schools, had a monte with a 350 not to long ago and it had nothing on this motor and it had headers. to me this car is considered 'fast' lol to most you guys its nothing

Your v350 can also be fast. Just throw some springs and swap the cam plus the headers and intake and you can have 400+ to the fly.

dont think i want to as far as swaping the cam i just got the motor in there and want to enjoy it but a mod that will make me sound better, give better low end torque, and will pay for itself litterally before i put it up for the winter doesnt sound like a bad idea

400hp i would blow 90s camaros out the water though would be pretty ****in sick lol my trans would break down so fast 200r4 aint the strongest in stock form im worried about it as is

400 Hp and a nice rear end means you'll blow any stock f-body out the water. Especially the new one. Just do a few weight mods and you're set.

The 85 T-type was 200HP & 300TQ and I don't know of any parts changes from it thru the 87 GNX which was factory rated at 360 TQ. The Vortec 350 was 255 HP & 330 TQ and did not come on as soon and as hard as the turbo motor. So if the 200-4R is healthy ie fresh fluid not excessively worn it should handle the vortec just fine. Even the part & full throttle shift points should fit it pretty well. Make sure to get an aftermarket kit to make your converter lock up feature works. No sense in heating up the transmission & putting heat in the cooling system where you don't need to, turning an extra 200+ rpms on the highway, and losing 1 mpg hwy. On top of that your trans if its the factory original t-type already came with a bumped up stall. 8) You also can get a quality shift kit like the ones ckperformance sells sometimes on special for $100 and an inexpensive trans cooler both of which are a good idea and will extend the life & somewhat capability of your trans.

No sense in dropping down to a 3 speed ie dropping down another 1/4 of the fuel economy and spinning it kind of hard on the highway with the 3.42s. Unless of cource you are turning it into a drag car or circle track car or something. You can find several shops around the country with a track record of successfully building or doing a rebuild on a high performance 200-4R for reasonable money. Bubbas local transmission shop however may not be able to do your hi po 200-4R right and especially(not) stand behind their work, they may say just do a three speed which I think for a real driven street car should go the way of the hand crank starter and wood spoke wheels. The hot air cars could pretty easily & cheaply be made to turn 13.9s at about 100mph but thats where cheap and easy leaves the scene with them and you get into adding an intercooler and or a water methanol injection kit well or race fuel.

PS there are always people looking to buy your hardened "109" block & crank so don't trash them thinking they are no different than a regular 3.8.
