Alright, I just put headers on my elky and I desperately need to route the exhaust further back because I have mufflers coming straight off some header extensions that are driving me crazy because there is so much resonance in the cabin when I drive.
I dont want to necessarily go to a muffler shop unless I absolutely have to. summit has a bunch of S and U mandrel bent pipes and if I can just get the exhaust ran a little further back I think I'll be fine. The problem is...there are huge humps where the cabin area is under the car...and Im guessing most people just run their pipes up towards the drive shaft and then along the driveshaft until they get to more spacious area.

if anyone has some pictures I'd greatly appreciate it..

thanks

i dont got any pics but i would just run piping all the way to the back and dump it just before the axel in that area.

yeah...i realize it needs to be run to the back...the problem is more technical than that. I wanted to know how people route their custom exhaust after the headers since you cant just go straight back.

when my dad had his 78 regal he had the headers back , had to cut abit out of the crossmembers for true duals, thran it right along beside the driveshaft with a h-pipe and then the mufflers in that area i mentioned and over the axels and out the sides like the grand nationals. sorry if that dont help, just giving my input.

just gunna use this pic as an example what i mean right beside the driveshaft only difference was he had it come off the header straight into the notched crossemember then tucked by the driveshaft and a h-pipe not x-pipe

i saw that picture when looking on car domain and that car was verrrry nice looking. thats a really custom looking exhaust, definitely something I dont think I could do without a welder. I also dont have the knotched cross member but I dont think I'd go to the trouble to route it to the other side where there IS clearance before I'd just buy the aftermarket crossmember or notch out my stock one.
plus those look like shorty headers, mine are long tube and dump pointing straight towards the back of the car.
I will have to take some pictures of my car so yall know what im working with.
what are the benefits to that x-pipe, do you know?

by evening out the pulses it helps to keep the exhaust velocities up and even bank to bank. this aids in scavenging the exhaust out of the cylinders. x and h pipes serve the same purpose but the x-pipe is definately better

ah i see, yeah i see them alot but I heard it was more efficient earlier in the exhaust "path" rather than later.

I dont have money for one right now but maybe in the future.

you want the x-pipe right off the headers, while the gas velocity is still high. i believe that he did it later due to space restrictions. if you run a straight forward dual it won't be a problem.

i'm not saying he did anything wrong. it's a cool looking effective set-up.

check out pypes performane exhaust. they carry a very good system and there is a picture gallery.
