Pontiacgp - I have no idea what he is putting it in. The 73-74 Cutlass to 75-77 Monte might be a problem- measure closely, I don't know why but 3/4 inch dif sticks in my head

the Chevelle rear 64-67 is 2.5" wider than a G body, the 68-72 model is 4.5" wider. I think the 73 and up is even wider but I can't find the rear end width

If I recall correctly... weren't the codes (to help determine gearing and what cars they were in) stamped on the axle tubes?

What motor, what transmission? That usually determines the gears.

4.11 gears are dumb unless you have 28" tall drag tires and 2.56 gears are dumb unless you want to cruise at 160 mph.

With Forged axles, you can go pretty fast before you have to worry about the C-clips.

I'll be runing a 700r4 for a transmission, and 275/60/15 (28" tall) tires.

I'll be putting it in my 86 Grand Prix. From what I've measured the 2, 8.5's are 3.75" wider axle flange to axle flange than the G body diff I have, but other wise the spring perches and lower control arm mounts are in the right places. The upper control arm mounts are wider then the G body ones but I spoke with UMI and it looks like their 12 bolt swap uppers will fix that problem.

3.75" wider should work with modern corvette/Fbody wheels without adaptors. Adapters would only be needed in front.
