finally got my factory tach hooked up,works great until it hits 3000 rpm, it acts like its banging off a rev limiter,i dont have
the filter, any thoughts?

also i tried it with the filter and it did the samething, so i dont think its that

I had the same issue with a tach I swapped in a couple weeks ago. I put in another one and It worked so maybe you have a bad tach?

If the connection plug feels wobbly, that may be your problem. If its wobbly, take the plug out and sodder the metal connection piece out of the plug to the 8 cly section of the tach. If it seems intact, the tach may be junk, look at the tach circuit board, it will likely look burnt colored on at least part of it. I just had to swap my tach, it read 600 rpm too high and it would not go to 0 mph when the key was turned to "on". The switch was intact, i took the tach out and the circuit board on it looked like it had got Hot.

I had that problem with a GP tach years ago. I tried everything I could think of and couldn't get it to work properly. Swapped in a different one and it worked fine.
