Failed smog today

Well, here in California they check the timing when you get smogged, and the tech said it was within spec. I'll look for vacuum leaks, just spray some carb cleaner around the lines?

If the problem were the cat, wouldn't I smell something in the exhaust? Are there simple tests for the egr?

depends on my motor which is efi i can test the egr thru my computer and on the cat i dont think it would smell not 100% sure..

Hey guys, would running seafoam through it help him out any? Dont have smog checks in TN so just a shot in the dark
