My 83 grand prix isn't coming off of fast idle. I push the fast idle cam down and it idles normally. I give it gas and it won't come down. I still have the Quadrajunk on it. 10 points to the first person to answer. Thanks in advance for answering!

They tend to stick. Clean with carb cleaner, then spray lube. Also make sure your choke is coming off all the way. The Quadrajet is the best overall carb ever made. Look at some of the Carter, Holley and Motorcraft turds that were very problematic.

I agree. The exact same thing happened to me a couple times when I first got my GP. Soaked the whole carb in an entire can of carb cleaner, and haven't had a problem (well, that problem, anyways...)since.

That worked perfect. That is the easiest I've ever fixed anything. I would have had a can of carb cleaner around but I used it up cleaning off the frame. Well, what else do you use when you run out of brake cleaner? Thanks again guys

So, That worked for a couple days and now it's back on high idle. I did it again and it seemed to be worked out last night and this morning it won't come down. ??

Day two. I sprayed it down again last night before driving home and it recovered about half way home and is still good this morning 😀 ......

She's back to insisting on staying on high idle. It just makes me treat her like the bad girl she is. So I gotta figure this one out. 🙁

If you push the fast idle cam down by hand, does it stay down? If not, the fast idle speed may be too high. Again, on my GP, at fast idle, it would scream at way over 2000 rpm, and wouldn't come down until it was running for 10 minutes, no matter what else I did. I turned the fast idle screw out(or in? I forget) a couple turns, and now it settles down when I tap the gas. Also check to see if anything else is binding or catching. Do you have an aftermarket air cleaner? I know on the spacer I had to use for mine, I had to make a small notch to clear part of the throttle linkage. Just double check all the moving parts to see if anything looks like it is binding or stuck. Also look up the specs for your carb, and make sure you are within them. Hope you figure it out. Good luck.

Hmmmm. Okay good. It stays down until I pull the throttle back. No aftermarket aircleaner yet. I'm gonna pull the cover off of the choke and spray in there too an make sure everything looks good this weekend. Maybe repalce the choke spring. Does the choke pull off have anything to do with this problem? Then I'll move onto specs for the carb. Thanks for the advise!!

It does sound like your fast idle speed may be too high. On the rare occasion that I could get my GP to kick down, it would go right back to fast idle when I touched the throttle. With the fast idle speed set correctly, it has been fine for months now.
