Not sure why first thread got shut down, can only venture to guess the "Mexican" reference caused the halt, The sheriff in Arizona only rules 1 of 4 counties in that state, in Canada we call them provinces, from above the 49th we have been dealing with these types of laws for years & if you owe money for parking tickets, bridge tolls(new) ,child maintenance & plenty more they can withhold your license...as far as a felony crime I am not sure we have the same rules or laws though we should based on this ridiculous example

I don't think anyone but a defense lawyer would argue with that example,
I am no angel as I have been busted in my early days for many driving infractions, (1 night bolting from cops in my 64 chevelle with "allegedly" stolen plates cost me a night in jail & $4500 in fines...probably a "felony" in the States & a guaranteed more than a night in jail") but I paid the piper was driving soon after & not a menace to society.
  1. Is driving a right: no you need to earn the right to drive(ie: you need to get your license, you need insurance)
  2. If my license is expired or suspended should I drive: No I have been pulled over where my license was suspended however I did not know & police acted accordingly & gave me suspension from there, also been pulled over for driving knowingly with drivers license being suspended played stupid maybe worked 50% of the time car still towed
  3. Should you be able to drive without insurance: In this day and age is it even worth debate?
  4. Not bashing, more a question, but how can land of the free allow a third strike...automatic life sentence for stealing a snickers bar, up here your lucky to get 10 for murder????

Not withstanding if you continually drive knowingly under suspension then you get what you deserve based on the laws where you live, as far as a felony conviction, leave that for debate, except for the broad mentioned above, as she threatens every one of us and all of our familia, or family or friends

One question I had before the thread was shut down. Where will the convicted felons be housed? Our prisons and jails are over filled with dangerous and violent felons already. What will it cost to incarcerate a person convicted of driving with a suspended license, $30,000, $40,000? How many will be sent to prison? This is a bad idea.

I locked it because it was getting dangerously close to the realm of conspiracy politics vs. sane discussion. That and the drunk posts. My opinion on the matter is in the other thread. Excessive penalties and incarceration for non-violent offenses are a different matter, and I can see this thread quickly going the same direction.

Let me tell my story before this gets locked. When I was dating my wife in '69 her father had a '68 Buick. Around '95 I got ahold of a nice one and totally restified it spending much cash and sweat and gave it to her. I had parked it in front of my house for a few minutes when a drunk with no insurance and a suspended license plowed into it. All were misdemeanors and I had to sue him for damages and won. Instead of paying up, he chose to flee the state, and because none of those was a felony, off he went without a care in the world. So, yeah. All of those violations should be a felony. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Here in Ontario it is in the rues you can be sent to jail for several traffic infractions but I have only seen one guy sent to jail for driving under suspension for 8 years. I had one client picked up and sent to a holding jail for driving under suspension repeatedly. It's on the books you can be arrested and detained to prevent you from repeating the infraction. It is very seldom that one ends up in jail over a traffic offence and I would suggest even if it is on the books in your state there would have to be extenuating circumstances before someone ends up in jail. The usual reason someone ends up in jail that person was ordered by the court not to do something they can be held in contempt if they do it. I had one client end up in jail over child support for failure to comply with an order from family court which is extremely unusual here in Ontario

I would highly urge people who think that states giving a felony on 1st drive w/ suspended tour some so called 'correctional' facilities in your own state. I have seen some 1st hand and was the exact opposite of impressed. I just can't take anyone's opinion seriously who dictates that ignorant young Steve's should be sent to bunk with hardened cartel gangsters and thugs, who refer to the phenomenon of brainwashing young naive idiots entering the system as 'college'. I think it's pretty obvious which Sheriff and which county of the 15 that exist I was referring to in the earlier thread. May I suggest some kind of alternative future where instead of people consistently adopting hardcore left wing and hardcore right wing opinions and continue to be mired in the muck of dysfunctional idiocy that there might actually be a middle ground somewhere between a woman being able to drive drunk 19 times without getting a felony and some 18 year old kid going to prison for his 3rd driving offense because he forgot to pay his insurance that week. I guess everybody would rather drive around blasting public radio and adopting overly strong opinions which are obviously morally bankrupt in principal and then defend those obviously flawed ignorant opinions online by citing oaths they have failed to protect under the last 2 administrations over this great country. You might be surprised to find out that there are millions of people prepared to approach the world in an even more ignorant fashion than yourselves and decide (too late) that it was not worth the risk for your so called 'reward' to have so easily handed the reigns your own freedoms away.

Just because we don't agree with you that does not make us brainwashed, naive, ignorant or mired in the muck of dysfunctional idiocy Once again I ask you for the sates that are threatening to jail drivers for driving with a suspended licence. If you can't answer that then your whole story is most likely BS

I didn't tell any 'stories' on here. It obviously was not a 'theory' that this was being tried in some states since we now have members from other states arriving to confirm that it is happening. + I'll roll up in any country on the whole earth and criticize whoever I want. We don't have to be talking food for me to go Chef Ramsay in this piece...
