Lots of states are doing it now. To people who didn't have felonies already... They don't even see it coming :!:

What states are you talking about. Driving under suspension is only a felony after the 3rd time in any state I have read and a Google search doesn't bring up any state making it a felony for the 1st offense.

Florida

2) Any person whose driver license or driving privilege has been canceled, suspended, or revoked as provided by law, except persons defined in s. 322.264, who, knowing of such cancellation, suspension, or revocation, drives any motor vehicle upon the highways of this state while such license or privilege is canceled, suspended, or revoked, upon:
(a) A first conviction is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
(b) A second conviction is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
(c) A third or subsequent conviction is guilty of a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

Prison is for predators, those that prey on those that are weaker than they are. Repeat drunkards and scofflaws may need to be locked up but not in prisons.

How about this; I don't care if it's the 3rd time or not I think it should still be a misdemeanor. Also, key to my point was that many states are doing it to hispanics knowing that they can't afford a real lawyer - before the 3rd time. The driving without insurance as a felony is what will happen next if minor driving offenses are a felony than logically that is the next step up. I'm flabbergasted that some people on here think that should be a felony as well? Really? You pay all of your bills on time at the same time every time without letting something lapse here and there? Even if so, it seems a bit ridiculous to expect that much out of the majority of other people. Some people who are allowed to drive can barely tie their shoes. More to the point; some people who are allowed to drive ought be required by law to take the bus but they are not. Handing idiots who are otherwise decent citizens on paper a 'felony' for a minor driving offense is a sure way to increase the population of future homeless people. Get brains guys.

'Prison' is for drunkards and scofflaws as shanghaismith said. I'm sure most states don't let a person get a felony for a minor driving offense unless they fit that general description. Some states on the other hand, would not bat an eye about sending you straight to prison. Other states are handing the felony out for driving offense to deport hispanics. Is that 'wrong'; arguably not since they are here illegally anyway. My point was that it could happen to YOU or one of your sons / daughters if you don't speak up on it. Visiting home from college - old unpaid tickets - felony... a recipe for a lifetime of debt (unpaid student loans cough cough cough)

I can't believe I live in a society that would stand by idly as we allow legislation that is clearly designed to enslave idiots into debt and probate them for minor traffic offenses... It's not like driving comes with an IQ test although it arguably should! If we are going to let idiots and retards (literally) drive than we should not leave open the possibility for undiscerning states attorney's to pursue felonies against said Stanleys and Steves. Several states are pushing the boundaries to your fourth amendment rights trying landmark cases this year; using old toll road pass records and on-star conversations as evidence to go back into the past and charge people with old driving crimes. Of course I wouldn't expect our European / Canadian neighbors to care about this issue; I'm talking more to my fellow Americans than them: Wake the **** up! If we don't do something now, missing a payment on ONE traffic ticket or a late insurance payment could be the future minimum grounds for receiving a felony and not being able to vote in an election / purchase firearms etc... As you have clearly seen some people visit this thread to say this is 'progress'; well I disagree. How dare a congressman or a senator who can't even pay his own bills leverage such dire expectations of responsibility against the lower class. They can't even pay their own bills on time but we are expected to? Well I think that's stupid. If anyone I know gets a felony for a minor driving offense I'm prepared to disagree in a not so peaceful form of protest.

^^Kinda reads like a drunk post. You probably shouldn't get behind the wheel for a few hours. Could end up with a felony.

I don't want to but it is required by law 😱

I have asked twice but since you can't tell me what states you are referring to I'll ignore this thread since it's probably bs
