After failing miserably to rebuild my Buick motor I decided to just buy an engine that I know runs. I picked up this SBC and it came with the Fi-Tech already on it. The motor has less than 20,000 miles on it. My question is, is keeping the fi-tech going to be worth the effort? I don’t mind putting in the work. I just hate bunk missions. The guy seemed like a straight shooter and he said that he didn’t have any problems with it.

I used them on a few different early Broncos. They use other companies sensors, which can be helpful if you know what they came from. I've also had issues with fuel pressure regulators, throttle position sensors, and outright injector failure. They usually work pretty well but I feel they aren't as solid as say the Holley Sniper, which has its own issues and all proprietary parts. Run it and see if you like it.

man i did a few fitech upgrades for customers and they mostly work great out of the box but i had to warranty out all but one that i did. im an experienced old school guy and i can tell u its not forever reliable, like turn key forever modern fuel injection. only kit ive ever found that really worked was (affordable fuel injection . com) and it takes some sending ur pcm prom in for adjustment to make changes to tune ur stuff in right. its all speed density so anytime u make an upgrade u have to reprogram the chip but these are all gm components from what i can tell and once u have ur final build it runs perfect. also these guys are super helpful and not difficult to deal with at all.

Yeah I ended up just selling it. After watching all the YouTube videos of people having problems with it I felt like it was something I didn’t want to deal with. I’m just going to throw a carb on it and see how that goes. I found a holly warrior new in the box for $200. I was thinking about getting it.

Pull it and either sell it or throw it in the garbage. And don’t ‘upgrade’ to a Sniper. Either buy something that allows full control or put a carb and HEI dizzy on it.

If you’re into having fuel injection, then Holley Term X, Megasquirt, Haltech or similar. None of those options are as budget friendly as a carb and dizzy.

I’m ignorant when it comes to this stuff. What do you mean by dizzy?

dizzy = distributor
HEI = GM factory style with coil and electronic module both in-cap, can be computer-controlled (7-wire module) or standalone (vacuum advance)

The motor shown in your post has standalone (vacuum advance) installed on it.

If this is the case, then put a carb on it. A simple vacuum secondary Holley or Edelbrock (Carter/AFB) and be on your merry way.

Sell the FiTech for whatever you can get out of it and put that towards a new carb.

That’s what I thought but I didn’t want to assume anything. I got $500 for the Fi Tech unit. People were all over thing. Now I just have to decide on a carb. Decisions decisions! For some reason I’m drawn to holly and I don’t really know why. Anyway what is this on the back of the motor. It has a wire hooked up to it?
