I hate the gold 442 decals, just can't do it all at once, probably gonna do red to match the stripe. My body side moldings were on the car when I got it, they look right and they're on top of the paint job so I ain't messin' with 'em!

Nice clean car!
You should have some two tone red/charcoal 442 decals made, that will really set it off.
The gold is a little contradictory.
The Grilles are my favorite 8)

Never seen anybody put the door ding strip on a 442. Although its possible the dealership did it.
All 442's came from the factory with them.
85's used gray only I believe.
86-87 were color keyed.
In 85 some 442's didn't come with them suposedly, there is a technical bulletin stating they wanted a more agressive look and to move away from the grocery getter look and some plants removed them even though the RPO tag will have the B84 option, 86-87 didn't do this.

I have one of those 1985 442's without the B84 on the SPID sticker. In doing some research for my "restoration", I found out that the body side molding that was on my 442 was added by the dealership when new (that's why it didn't look like the rest of them, it was thinner and didn't have any on the rear quarters behind the tires).

When I get it painted, I'll probably keep the molding off since I only drive it for fun. I don't know though.

I do hate when 442s are repainted and the 442 decals and/or the body side molding is not put in the right spot. It changes the hole look of the car, if you are going for a stock appearance.

hate to argue this point again...............door ding moulding was not an option on 442's and 83/84 H/O. i went to GM dealer in 83 with my friend and his dad to look at them...........his dad was gonna buy one. we saw 12 83 H/O on the dealer lot, just off the truck a few hours earlier,to be shipped to all the other dealers, and not 1 had door ding strips on it, it was a dealer thing.....not factory. it was one of those extras that the dealers offered in the day to try and generate sales and impress with "free" extras. my friend actually has video of all 12 vin numbers that he took with dads video cam
no frakkin door ding moulding on any of them, two years later we were at that same dealer lookin at 85 442.....they had 1 ..........and it had no door ding moulding as well

OK............so if any body has a factory brochure from 81 on ( I have all brochures from 1973 to 1988) check the photos.....most base models had door ding stuff, anything calais/salon/brougham had none. hell even check the photos of brochures on here in the photo section .... two 83 H/O adds and one 442 add......no door ding moulding!!!!

anyways HATE THE DOOR DING sh*t......loose it, and don't give me that "ooo, it helps" crap................park your car at the back off the lot and walk a few feet to the mall. makes your car more visible anyways. it totally kills the lines of these cars......and looks real grandpa anyways (just my opinion)

Mine weighed 3,840 with a full tank of fuel, full size spare, & me at 215 with the Caddy motor. I would guess yours at about 3,550 with just the car. 14.2 at 96 is great out of a 307! Lots of guys have put near stock sbc 350s and don't run that fast. I'd peg it at about 225hp but with a lil more and a better low & mid range torque curve than a comprably built 305 or Ford 302. Whoever built it knew what they were doing and did a great job. Should make for a real fun & enjoyable driver. Shoot back in the day my box stock GN only ran 13.90s at 98/99 mph.
My '80 Grand Am with Pontiac Motor weighed 3340 lbs, all it had was power brakes/steering/rear defog/tilt,and a/c. Crank windows and standard locks, did have a trunk release. This car with T-tops, power everything even antenna might only be 200 lbs heavier, but it feels more like 300 in the ride and handling dept. Of course the '80 GA had a one off suspension setup only available in '80 on them and the GP/SJ. I would love to get a set of the springs, shocks and sway bars like those.

(just my opinion)
Yes it is.

Looking at my build sheet= B84 Moldings, Body Side $55.00.
And the factory lit shows 3 '85 442's 1 with body side moldings and 2 without. So no matter how many you saw without them, they were an option.
Mine also came with B93 Moldings, Door Edge Guard, They are gone and the side moldings look to be replacements.

Sorry Dudeface, but my '85 442 has option B84 on the RPO label too...
The car was painted in the early '90s and the door-ding moldings were left off at that time.
