Slow start this year, our local reservoir, nothing. Holidays this week and another 20+ fish day.

Fishing in a dress. Hold on tight to her!
I have for 28 years😉. We kept 3 of the 4 Walleye, which taste great. The big ones are Northern Pike, taste great as well but the Y bones waste a lot of meat. My Wife caught a 41" last year, around 30 pounds! There have been Pike around the 40 pound mark caught, Walleye world ice fishing record at nearly 19 pounds was caught in this reservoir. Also 100 pound Lake Sturgeon lurking around. We also caught a common sucker,🤮 not eating that. Also Cisco, Red Horse Suckers and Sauger as well. Going to Fishing Lake tomorrow, found a killer spot, 50 a day, caught a 26" Walleye there last year. Saskatchewan record Northern Pike was caught there 39.9 pounds. Hopefully Diefenbaker Lake, later this week. The World Record Burbot at over 25 pounds and numerous Rainbow Trout, including the World Record at and over 40 pounds caught there.

F&^K fishing. Went yesterday with the wife and kid. I caught a stick, and broke the tip of the Bass Pro $30 rod off. The cicadas around here are nuts, so that didn't help anything. The fish have had a steady buffet for the past month. I spent the rest of the time putting worms on the kid's hook for mini-bluegill.

Pike caught before it gets warm can be good eating. Seem to remember that their meat goes kind of mushy during the hot summer months. They do put up a fight so if you are just in it for the battle and the pictures have at 'er. Walleye, or Pickerel, are good eating. Around here though you have to deal with the Conservation Officers or CO's and they are a nuisance. Limits on quantity and size. Can't be too long or too short or they get pissy. PFD's are mandatory plus a lot of safety equipment is required for the boats now. it is all supposed to protect and preserve the sport of fishing but is probably more intended to preserve the bureaucracy that feeds off it. I still have pickerel sitting in the basement freezer; can't begin to recall how long it's been there. Somone brought it over as a gift decades ago! Probably not edible by now. WE used to go out for a few days of fishing during the summer Vay-Kay but now, if you have been out for the week and have your catch with you when you get pulled over by a CO, they will try to fine you for over fishing and confiscate the catch!!! Telling them that it is a week's worth of take doesn't mean dick to them; all they see is too many fish and out comes the ticket book. Argue too much and you get to walk home; they'll grab your truck and boat too. Not an occupation that is well liked at the best of times.

Man, that blows on the CO in your area. Yeah, late season fish can slimy and taste like Algae. Honestly, the best tasting fish are the big Channel Catfish sitting at the Lake outlets into the Qu'Appelle River, inhaling minnows. The smallest we caught was 8 pounds and biggest was probably around 30 pounds. My Wife caught 2 Rock Bass that were probably a Provincial record, they had to be over 2 pounds, big and very fat. She didn't realize that is as big as they get, I wasn't there that day. Those little guys are my favorite to catch. Regulations have gotten tighter here as well. We only got checked by a CO officer once last year on Fishing Lake. So many Lakes and so few people lead to great fishing and rarely getting bothered. Facebook was more of an issue, my Wife had to stop posting her pics on the open forum. People assumed we kept most of them, we release the vast majority of our fish. And they are very jealous of the size of her fish as well, many trophy and just nice size fish caught.

My 2021 total: 1 Bluefish. And now it is getting hot out.

Went to Fishing Lake today, plenty of fish, mostly followers. A few really nice Walleye followed us right to the boat. Plenty of small Pike caught. A good 20 caught, not 50 like last year but it is still early. The two Walleye we caught were nice.
