I've been cleaning out the garage this morning and ran across these suckers-

No idea what vehicle they went to, I'm guessing one of my Dad's Luminas or Regals. Maybe the Trans Sport van? It's been over 20 years since we owned any of them. There was this little warning on the box-

I tossed 'em.

Aha! The old trustops! I bought a set of these for my old crew cab cutlass when I worked for Napa. I paid about 8 dollars and they went up in smoke the first time I stopped!

My dad is notoriously cheap when it comes to multi-tier good, better, best products so I'm not at all surprised 😆

When I was a kid my dad used to always buy his starters and alternators from Schucks because they were cheap but had a lifetime warranty. Replacing them every 6 months was cool...because he got a new one for free.🙄

I was surprised those pads contained asbestos thinking they stopped using abestos in the 70's due to the laws but I was wrong

I'm laughing because that is my dad to a T. When he wore out the first set of brake pads on that Camry, he kept buying these brakes that Pepboys used to sell, I forget the brand but it was some generic name, "Stop Power" or something. They were terrible pads, they were noisy, they didn't stop for sh*t, they dusted like crazy, destroyed rotors, and didn't last 10k miles. But they had a lifetime warranty. So he kept taking them back and swapping them out once or even twice a year for like, 4 years until pepboys stopped selling them. I think he put Wagners on it after that and that was the end of that.

What I thought was even funnier is that he insisted that the car was the reason that the brakes were wearing out so frequently 😆

I love him but good Lord, I'll never understand his thought process.

I went down this rabbit hole once. Turns out, it's really hard to find out if brake pads have asbestos or not. IIRC, wagner claims they don't use it anymore, but I couldn't find any concrete answers from raybestos.

I could be mistaken but I'm fairly certain it's still used in very minute amounts in some building materials. I want to say roofing shingles, tar paper, and some drywall products like Hardiebacker.

Actually it wasn't that long ago that we still sold that product at Napa, now it is the performer line.
The m on the end designated metallic, the real old ones with no letter on the end were asbestos.
