What tires are people using that have successfully notched their rear frame rails to put slick underneath? I was the thinking of 26x11.5x17 or 28x11.5x17 or something similar to fit. This article says that, "P325/50R15’s or 11.5X28.00-inch slicks, using the stock inner wheel well (tub). Best of all, it can be accomplished at stock (or close to stock) ride height, thus preserving the suspension geometry."

What amazes me are the EZ Street cars that are in the ORSCA (Outlaw Racing Street Car Association). The records in this class are 1/8th mile at 4.854 and 150.83 mph. Stock suspension (aftermarket arms are allowed but must bolt to factory locations) with 325/50/15, the 295/55/15, and the 275/60/15 drag radials (no slicks) and maximum 12" wheel. Minor notching allowed. No wheelie bars allowed.

I've seen these cars and if they hook (IF) they usually sit on the rear bumper! I've heard they are running upwards of 1200 - 1400 hp (?).

4.8's @ 150 on the rear bumper on drag radials with over 1000 hp and stock suspension...

WOW !!!!

Edit: Found some short vid clips I've collected. All are under 1 min each. Enjoy.

I checked out this web site great info on it but my question is isn't the frame now weakened in that section cause of how thin the frame is there i know they welded new plate but doesn't look strong enough.Im thinking of doing it depending on the the feed back i can get cause im lowering the car and i might run 18x10 in the rear if i get it done.

Considering the fact that they probably removed 18 or 20ga material and replaced it with 1/4in plate I doubt they lost much strength. Not to mention they added a cross tie to each frame rail to make it more rigid.

The physics of tubing design and whats stronger has alot more to do with it then just the straight size of it. Wall thickness has a huge amount to do with it.

You can brace the frame to help make it ridged. I ran a tube across and thru the frame rails and welded it on both sides. Similar to a pickup truck frame. Once all the exhaust is run I'm going to add more bracing to the upper and lower control arms. Thats where your stress is. I'm also tubbing mine however so I cant tell you about stock tubs. I will have 13 inches from frame rail to rolled lip.
