MALIBU Frame notching

couple questions please, looking for what people have paid recently to get their rear frame notched please. Trying to go big for grip. As for what size tire, depends on what the end clearance is.

1 yes I searched.... found only generic answers like wtvr he charges, shouldn't be that expensive, and/or depends on your area but nobody gave a price. I understand shops vary, just looking for a range so I can plan my next upgrade timeline.

2 I am wanting to go with the UMI kit since it looks clean..........Worth it or no?

3 Anybody know anybody in the Atlanta GA area they could recommend? I am also willing to drive to Bama, the FLA, or TN. I love road trips and gives me a reason to party with the misses (granted we open sooner than later)

I did mine myself and had about 8 hours into it. If you assume the cost of the kit, supplies and assume $90/hr for fab shop labor, you’re looking at $1000-1500 for the job.

With tubs more than 1500, probably closer to 2K. Without tubs I'd guess about 1K

I am curious as to why you wouldn't want to attempt this yourself, you could buy a mig welder and spend at most a weekend doing this and not only save money but have a valuable tool for future fabrication.

What tire did you end up using?

UMI didn’t have the kit yet when I started. I bought some plate steel and a plasma cutter. I’m running a 315/35/17 tire and it fits with almost 1/2” all around with a stock width rear end, a 6.75BS wheel and some minor wheel well trimming on the outside.

I did the same thing over 20 years ago before there were "kits" , I noticed that my tires were rubbing slightly on my frame and realized that if I notched the frame so it was flush with the inner wheel tub I would have more tire clearance and back then I didn't even know this was a thing.
